Sometimes reinventing the wheel IS the best course of action. While it may be the more challenging path for developers, prioritizing simplicity for the end-user leads the most effective outcomes. Embracing this mindset encourages innovations that prioritize user needs, internal and external, above all else.
01 Challenge
Corbin Capital's project presented multiple challenges from the start. First, we needed to create a visual identity starting with a series of logos that they had created internally. Second, they requested a system that would allow their internal IT department to seamlessly update website content (including over 40 individual funds, their associated documents, and their associated users) all without touching our CMS. Lastly, we needed to incorporate these solutions into a fully realized website that was simple to use yet visually unique in the finance industry.
02 Solution
Defining visual identity begins with the logo. While we ultimately presented over 10 unique logos, we ended up going with a soft re-work of the winner of their internal contest. Next, we wanted to break the mold of what it meant to be a financial website. We drew inspiration from wide-ranging sources from travel agencies to multi-media conglomerates. After arranging a full-day photo shoot on-site at Corbin's offices, we found that making the team the focal point of the site was the best way to showcase Corbin's expertise.
Crafting the back-end for this project proved to be an interesting exploration of how far we could push our platform. We explored various ways, from the old-school "CSV" mapping to utilizing Salesforce as a controller. Ultimately we ended up crafting a siloed server that allows Corbin to simply drag/drop files into. On a nightly basis, our batch scripts sort the files accordingly and integrate them with our system giving Corbin the ability to be as precise as possible while eliminating the need to disrupt their current internal processes.
