01 Challenge
Chi-Rho has been a long-time client of ours and as such has gone through multiple revisions. For the purposes of this case study, we're going to highlight the back-end work that was done along with the re-design you'll see on this page.
Chi-Rho came to us with a general idea of what they were looking for: a way to automate their financial reports. This would consist of a two document approach: an internal report that would focus more on a trailing 3 month snapshot of their client's accounts and an external report that would be closer to a tear-sheet but on a per client basis instead of per fund.
02 Solution
To solve this we needed to understand how Chi-Rho was receiving their current reports, and how we could keep everything together without having Chi-Rho to do too much extra. This led us down the path of CSV mapping. CSV mapping is essentially, using Excel as a database. We had Chi-Rho create a series of "master" files, that would dictate the flow of information. Using those master files, we could then cross-reference with the raw data they were sending us. Setting a up a cronjob (we set up two, midday and midnight), the files would be batched and uploaded to our system.
With the processing out of the way, we then moved on to the reports themselves. In order to properly accommodate this endeavor, we needed to overhaul our PDF capabilities. Previously we were restricted to a very archaic level of design, with this overhaul we could utilize modern approaches when creating PDFs. This gave us the freedom to get far more expansive with the types of charts we could display.
